Sanjeev Kishore takes charge as General Manager of South Western Railway

Sanjeev Kishore has assumed charge as the General Manager of South Western Railway. Prior to this, he was posted at the Railway Board as an additional member (production units). He succeeds Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, South Central Railway who was holding additional charge of the post of GM, SWR from April 2021, till July 30.

Kishore possesses wide and varied experience in various capacities in North Eastern Railway, Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala, Central Railway, RITES, COFMOW, Centre for Railway Information Systems, New Delhi, Railway Board, and Rail Wheel Factory, Yelahanka, Bengaluru.

An alumnus of Indian Railways’ Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (IRIMEE) Jamalpur (Bachelor of Engineering), Kishore holds PG Diploma in Management from MDI Gurgaon (with Prime Minister’s medal for best overall performance). He has completed the Executive Fellow Programme (Doctoral Level) in Strategic Management from MDI Gurgaon.

He has also undergone training on advanced strategic management at Carnegie Mellon University, USA, Executive Leadership Programme at SDA Bocconi, Italy etc. A keen researcher with several research papers in refereed journals and chapters in edited books to his credit, he has been invited to deliver guest lectures to leaders from Government and Industry at MDI Gurgaon, National Academy of Indian Railway Vadodara.  

Sanjeev Kishore possesses extensive experience in handling International Projects; some of them being UNDP assisted projects for up-gradation of capabilities in Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala (1998). (Swarna Shatabdi Express was the outcome of the prototype of this project with improved coach design). 

He has also handled the transfer of technology from LHB, Germany and Fiat, Italy and Switzerland. These technologies have altered the paradigm of passenger train coach design in India. (1994-1999)

Crashworthy coach design project of RITES (2003-2009) involving collaboration between expert organisations of the USA and public, private sector organisations from India. He was instrumental in the starting of the export of rail wheels and axle sets from India (Rail Wheel Factory, Yelahanka Bengaluru) to Mozambique.

He is a recipient of the National Award (Minister of Railways Award) for Meritorious Service in 2003. Kishore is a Fellow of Institutions of Engineer India and that of Institution of Mechanical Engineers, United Kingdom.
