Second & Third Oxygen Express Trains Reach ICD Whitefield

Braving the challenges posed by the Covid-19 Pandemic, Indian Railways is ensuring that essential commodities are transported to various corners of the country. The dedicated staff of Indian Railways has enabled efficient and swift transport of essentials goods including medical oxygen during the Covid19 pandemic. The second Oxygen Express reached ICD Whitefield at 3.20am on May 15. It had started from Kalinganagar, Jajapur district, Odisha on May 14 at 03.10 am.

The third Oxygen Express to Karnataka was loaded from Tatanagar, Jharkhand and it also reached ICD Whitefield at 5.10pm on May 15. This Oxygen Express had started its journey from Tatanagar at 12.40 pm on May 14. Indian Railways created a signal-free 'Green Corridor' to enable swift transport of this Oxygen Express, ensuring that this train had a run stoppage free, and did not have to wait for crossing/passage of another train.

Each train carried six cryogenic containers and each cryogenic container carried 20 tonnes of liquid medical oxygen (Total tonnage: 120 Tonnes). The total tonnage of Oxygen from both these trains touching based at ICD is 240 tonnes. So far, Karnataka has received 360 tonnes of LMO by rail. Indian Railways has so far transported more than 8700 tonnes of LMO in more than 540 tankers all over the country in the last 20 days to assist state governments in their fight against Covid19.

RAILWAYS MOVES O2 PAN INDIA TOO

Across India, Indian Railways continued its journey of delivering Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) to various states. Thus far, 139 Oxygen Expresses have completed their journey so far and brought relief to various states. Six loaded Oxygen Expresses were on the run with more than 475 MT of LMO in 35 tankers as of 6pm on May 15. Oxygen Expresses have delivered nearly 800 MT of LMO to the nation each day for the last few days. 

It is Indian Railways endeavour to deliver as much LMO as possible in the shortest time possible to the requesting states. Andhra Pradesh got its First Oxygen Express in Nellore with 40 MT of LMO. One Oxygen Express is racing towards Kerala with 118 MT of load to boost Oxygen supply in the region. So far 521 MT of Oxygen has been offloaded in Maharashtra, nearly 2350 MT in UP, 430 MT in MP, 1228 MT in Haryana, 308 MT in Telangana, 40 MT in Rajasthan.

The LMO offloaded in Karnataka is 361 MT, 200 MT in Uttarakhand, 111 MT in Tamil Nadu, 40 MT in Andhra Pradesh and more than 3084 MT in Delhi. Running of new Oxygen is a very dynamic exercise and figures keep getting updated all the time. More loaded Oxygen Expresses are expected to start their journeys later in the night. Railways has mapped different routes with Oxygen supply locations and keep itself ready with any emerging need of the States. 

States provide tankers to the Indian Railways for bringing LMO.
