MRPL to support district & state meet rising oxygen demand
Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) will set up five oxygen generation plants in Dakshina Kannada and other parts of Karnataka to support the state government’s fight against the second wave of the Covid pandemic. As per direction from Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament and Dakshina Kannada district administration, MRPL will set up 930 liters per minute Oxygen plant in Government Wenlock Hospital.
Shell MRPL Aviation (SMA) which is a
joint venture between MRPL and Shell will be contributing Rs 75 lakh for this
initiative. MRPL has already placed order for this unit with M/s Summits
Hygronics Pvt Ltd for an order value of Rs 1.12 crore. This plant will be
56M3/hour capacity (930 liters per minute). This system will have compressors,
PSA tank, filters, tanks, dryers and ensure Oxygen pressure of 4 bars with
purity of 93 +- 3 or medical grade Oxygen.

In addition, MRPL will also setting up 4
more Oxygen generation plants in as many places in the state as guided by the
state government. Incidentally, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG)
too had guided different oil and gas PSU’s to set up 28 oxygen plants in
Karnataka. Apart from these 4 plants of MRPL, MRPL’s parent company ONGC also
will be setting up two more oxygen plants in locations indicated by the
Karnataka government.
Out of these plants, MRPL has already
placed order for 2 plants of 530 liters per minute generation capacity at a
value of Rs 1.4 crore for two plants. During the first COVID wave MRPL had
supported district administration with food kits, sanitizers, masks, travel
arrangement for migrant workers and food for unorganized sector and destitute
to help tide over a humanitarian crisis that the lockdown measures had brought
forth.
