Karnataka receives two more O2 Expresses for second day in a row

Braving adverse and cyclonic weather conditions, Indian Railways in its endeavour to take relief to the nation by ensuring timely loading and transportation of Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) delivered two more oxygen special trains to Karnataka. The state received the 13th and 14th 'O2 Specials' on May 26 to go with two that authorities of Bengaluru division of Hubballi headquartered South Western Railway received at the Inland Container Depot (ICD), Whitefield a day before.

While the 13th Oxygen Express reached ICD Whitefield at 12.10am; the 14th  'O2' special chugged in a little more than 13-hours later at 9.15am. The 13th train had left Kanalus, Jamnagar in Gujarat at 6.20pm on May 24 and the 14th train started from Tatanagar, Jharkhand at 9.15am on May 25. The two trains in all hauled 232.16 tonnes of LMO with the train from Tatanagar bringing in 120MT of LMO and the other train 112.16 tonnes LMO in six cryogenic containers each.

So far, Karnataka has received 1652.8 tonnes of LMO by Rail. Indian Railways has so far run 272 Oxygen expresses and transported more than 17945 tonnes of LMO by 1080 tankers to all over the country to assist state governments in their fight against Covid19. The ministry of railways has accorded top priority for the operation of these trains and even create 'Green' signal-free corridors for their run from the originating to the destination stations with minimal time for technical halts.

In a scale-up of operations which continued till late on May 25, 12 O2 Expresses with 969MT of LMO started their journeys from cyclone hit Eastern states and beat tough weather to take relief to the nation. These included 3 trains for Tamil Nadu, 4 for Andhra Pradesh and 1 each for Delhi region, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Assam and Kerala. Amongst the Southern States, delivery of LMO to Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Telangana crossed 1000 MT each.

Jharkhand received its first Oxygen Express to become the 15th state to get oxygen supply from Railways. Oxygen Expresses started their deliveries 32 days back on April 24 in Maharashtra with a load of 126 MT. (O2 Express Updates)
