Karnataka gets two more trains carrying life saving LMO; 9th to reach on May 23

Karnataka on May 22 received its seventh and eighth Oxygen Express trains that Indian Railways is running to help reach life-saving liquid medical oxygen to states that are battling to save lives badly hit by the pandemic. While the seventh Oxygen Express reached ICD Whitefield, Bengaluru at 9.20pm on May 21, the eighth Oxygen Express did so in the early hours of May 22 or at 3.15am. The two trains together hauled 229.2 tonnes of LMO in all. 

Authorities at the Hubballi headquartered South Western Railway (SWR) that is coordinating the arrival of these 'O2 Special Trains' with other zonal railways said the seventh Oxygen Express started from Tatanagar, Jharkhand on May 20 at 05.50pm carrying 120 tonnes of LMO in six cryogenic containers. This special train completed the journey in a little over 27-hours thanks to the signal-free corridor that the various zonal railways have created across the Indian Railways network.

The Seventh Oxygen Express That Arrived At ICD, Whitefiled on May 21

Bringing home the seventh express to ICD, Whitefield was an all-female crew comprising the loco pilot and assistant loco pilot who piloted the Express train from Jolarpettai Junction to the destination. The 8th O2 Express train to Karnataka was loaded from Kanalus, Jamnagar in Gujarat. This train departed from Kanalus at 8.40pm on May 20 transporting 109.2 tonnes of LMO in six cryogenic containers. Even this train did not have to wait for crossing/passage of another train.

Thus far, Karnataka has received 942.14 tonnes of LMO by Rail. Indian Railways has so far run 208 Oxygen Expresses and transported nearly 13319 tonnes of LMO in 814 tankers to all over the country to assist the respective state governments in their fight against Covid -19. Karnataka incidentally will receive its 9th O2 Express that is on the way to ICD, Whitefield from Tatanagar, Jharkhand in the early hours of May 23. This train departed from Tatanagar at 11.35pm on May 21.
