Indian Coast Guard seizes heroin worth ₹300 crore in joint operation with Gujarat ATS
Indian Coast Guard in a joint intelligence-based operation with ATS Gujarat apprehended a Pakistani boat ‘NUH’ off Jakhau, Gujarat on the intervening night of April 14 and 15. Authorities recovered 30-Kgs of heroin and arrested eight Pakistani nationals from the Pakistani boat. The operation was carried out based on input received on April 13 regarding suspected narcotics trafficking by a Pakistani boat off Indo-Pak notional IMBL.
On receipt of the input, the Indian Coast Guard in association with ATS Gujarat swiftly launched a coordinated operation. The Coast Guard fast Interceptor Boat with ATS officials on board was deployed to intercept the suspected Pakistani boat. On the midnight of April 14/15, Coast Guard authorities sighted the suspected Pakistani boat inside Indian waters and intercepted it.

On boarding and rummaging through the boat, authorities recovered about 30 packets of heroin weighing approx 1 kg each. The value of seized narcotics in the international market is estimated to be approx ₹300 crores. Preliminary investigations revealed that the consignment being smuggled was destined for landing on Gujarat shore. The boat along with the Pakistani crew is being escorted to Jakhau for further rummaging and joint investigation.

PAST SUCCESSES AGAINST ILLEGAL TRAFFICKING
It may be recalled that on March 18, ICG had apprehended SLB Ravihansi with about 300 Kg of heroin, five AK-47 rifles, and 1000 rounds of ammunition off Lakshadweep Island, which is suspected to have originated from Makran coast. Prior to this, ICG had successfully apprehended SLB Akarsha Duwa on March 21 which admitted to carrying 200 kg high-grade heroin and 60 kg Hashish which was jettisoned at sea on sighting patrol ships.
In a similar operation in November 2020, ICG had apprehended Sri Lankan boat Shenaya Duwa off Kanyakumari, carrying 120 kgs narcotics worth approx ₹1000 crore and five weapons. The past year has proved to be a big setback for drug traffickers as ICG has successfully seized more than 1.6 tons of narcotics worth approx ₹5200 crores. The total drug haul done by ICG since inception amounts to ₹11,252 crores.
