Pandemic Restricts Mangaluru Lit Fest 2021 On Reimagining The Idea Of Bharat To A One Day Affair

Reimagining The Idea Of Bharat, albeit under the shadow of the global pandemic will resonate in Namma Kudla as the third edition of Mangaluru Lit Fest gets underway in Mangaluru on March 27. The event is an attempt to showcase the ancient Indian wisdom of peace, prosperity and universal well-being as enshrined in Indian scriptures from the Indian historical perspective through intellectual discourse by the finest literary minds from across the globe.

Organised by Mangaluru Literary Foundation in association with The Mythic Society as the Knowledge partners, the third edition will be a one-day affair as against a two-day treat for literature lovers that the previous editions offered. Initially scheduled for November 2020, the event has been organised at a new venue in Hotel Ocean Pearl as against the Dr TMA Pai Convention Centre where the first two editions unfolded the literary splendour.

The six sessions planned will focus on issues contemporary including the post-pandemic narratives, lingua franca and minds thoughts, 75th year of Indian Independence – Swarajya Then and Now, striving to explore the Indian identity through cinema, untold sagas, unsung heroes – reimagining India through history and its retelling and the literary flow emerging from churning through difficult times – the path forward for Kannada.

Vikram Sood, former R&AW chief, Shakti Sinha, former principal secretary to the PM, Prof Madhav Nalapat, chairman, UNESCO chair, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Dr Dattesh D Prabhu-Parulekar, Goa University, Panjim will be panellists in the opening session on Post Pandemic Narratives: Reimagining the Indian Way. Dr Nanda Kishor M S, head of department, GIR, MAHE, Manipal will moderate this session.

Dr Anandappa B H Jogi, Janapada University, Haveri, Satyabodha Joshi, creative head, Asianet Suvarna, Bengaluru and Mangala Siddi, folk artist, will be the panellists for the second session on Nelada Baashe, Manada Maathu: Navabharatakke Desi Sogadu. Dr Rohinaksha Shirlalu, Central University of Karnataka, Kalaburagi will moderate this session.

The third session on Azadi Ke 75 Saal: Swarajya Then and Now will see Dr Vikram Sampath, author, Dr Gita Dharampal, dean, Gandhi Research Centre, Jalgaon, Maharashtra and Seshadri Chari, former editor, Organiser as the panellists. Dr Nandan Prabhu, associate professor, MIM, MAHE will be the moderator of this session.

The post lunch fourth session will see the idea of Exploring The Indian identity through Cinema being explored. Suneel Puranik, chairman, Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy, Bengaluru, Suchendra Prasad, actor and Abhishek Iyengar, screen writer and director will be the panellists with Samarth Rao, screen writer being the moderator.

Fifth session will be on Untold Sagas, Unsung Heroes: Reimagining Bharat Through Itihas and Its Retelling. Sai Swaroopa Iyer, author, Vasundhara Desai Mahapurush, author and researcher and Aravindan Neelakandan, journalist will be the panellists in this session that journalist Harsha Bhat will moderate.

The sixth and final and session will deal with the topic Vishamatheya Mathanadalli Moodida Sahtiya Sudhe: Kannada Mundina Haadhi. Dr B V Vasanth Kumar, chairman, Kannada Sahitya Academy, Dr Girish Bhat Ajakkala, chairman, Kuvempu Bhasha Bharati, Lakshmi Narayan Kajagadde, Chairman, Are Bhashe Academy will dwell on the issue while Rohith Chakrateertha, member, Kannada Abhivruddhi Pradhikara will be the moderator.

Screening of a short film will bring down the curtain on this edition.

MAHE student team wins MHRD's National Innovation Contest (NIC) 2020

Dr Mahima Mishra and her team have bagged the prestigious National Innovation Contest (NIC) 2020 conducted by the ministry of education.  Dr Mahima Mishra from Manipal College of Dental Sciences (MCODS) and her team secured the finalist position and won the contest. After this phenomenal achievement, Dr Mahima is now the Innovation Ambassador and received recognition at the regional and national levels by MHRD’s Innovation Cell.  MHRD’s innovation cell on May 19 declared 127 teams as winners/finalists of the National Innovation Contest 2020. Skymet Predicts Onset Date Of Southwest Monsoon 2021

Skymet, India’s leading weather forecasting and agriculture risk solutions company has released its monsoon forecast for 2021. Skymet expects the upcoming monsoon to be ‘healthy normal’ to the tune of 103% (with an error margin of +/- 5%) of the long period average (LPA) of 880.6mm for the 4-month period from June to September. This would make it 3rd consecutive year of normal or above-normal monsoon. Now, Skymet has released its monsoon onset date for 2021. Skymet expects the onset to be around the normal date. Based on the data from 1961-2019, the normal date of onset over the Indian mainland is june 1 with a standard deviation of one week.  The onset of Southwest Monsoon over Kerala is largely influenced by the oceanic conditions, both in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.
